cheers for the 16th blog (:
blogger vs. tumblr?
which do you prefer?
Let’s start out with talking about
Tumblr. Tumblr is a microblogging service that makes it easy (via a bookmarklet right in your browser) to post photos, quotes, videos, and text. Your blog name is username.tumblr.com but you can use any domain you want. You can post via IM, email, or the web. It can automatically slurp in your Twitter posts, any RSS feed that you give it, your LiveJournal, etc. You can customize the theme far easier than a Wordpress theme. Disadvantages over Wordpress? Well, you don’t have that self-hosted access to all the files the way you do if you have your own Wordpress.org site. It doesn’t come with comments set up right out of the box and requires adding Disqus to it to make it useful. When you bring in RSS feeds, they sometimes look funky and aren’t formatted right – and you can’t get full text. Tumblr allows you to “follow” other users, giving you a dashboard that shows you all the latest posts from everyone and gives you the ability to “reblog” them. Reblogging feels incestuous, it feels like a halfassed commenting system and results in a LOT of duplicate content on your dashboard while everyone you followed rapidly reblogs each other’s annoying uninteresting content to add their oneliners.
Blogspot™ offers people interested in blogging a quick and easy way to get started. A blog can be used for almost anything, from a personal diary to a professional work area, where coworkers can communicate and share ideas. There is really no limit to what a blog can be used for. Blogs offer a great opportunity for people to share their ideas. Blogs offer instant publishing, a way for readers to interact using comments and polls, and a chance for people to connect with others who have similar goals, lifestyles, and interests.
Pyra Labs developed Blogspot™ in 1999 as a dedicated blog hosting tool. It was purchased in 2003 by Google, and since then has grown to become one of the most popular free-hosting blog sites on the internet. It's easy to use, and takes only a few minutes to go through the set up process and start blogging. There is no technical information or difficult software to figure out.
What's the difference between tumblr and blogspot?
Blogspot is a blog. People vent, ramble, write stuff, etc. Whatever it is you're supposed to do on a blog.
Tumblr can be seen as a Twitter-ized blog. Follow people you like, spread and/or share content, and repeat the whole cycle. Usually short phrases, quotes, links, or images instead of paragraphs.
If you like to write, stick with a traditional blog service. If you like to send links, videos, kinda like Facebook, try Tumblr.
for me Tumblr is cool, but Blogspot is awesome (:
